ERP System in Singapore

In Singapore, I was told that they don't have toll booths but instead this thing called the ERP, otherwise known as 'Electronic Road Pricing'. The idea behind this system was to discourage motorists from entering the congested CBD area. It works, that is why Singapore is relatively traffic congestion free.

However for those Malaysians travelling to Singapore, this poses an inconvenience to the pocket as one SG$ is RM2.30. While Malaysians allow Singaporeans cars to enter Johor practically free of charge, the Singaporeans slap onto us something called a VEP (Vehicle Entry Permit) and later on the ERP. which often amounts to more than a hundred Ringgit.

Everyday Rob People... and its 'R' rated...
the daylight robbery is not for the faint of heart it seems!

The longer the time you spend driving around, the more they rob you, without you have any clue! Not only that, the Singaporeans have this ingenious system of keeping track of traffic offences via camera, and while exiting the island republic, you might be paying more than the VEP and ERP!

So we all know the official terminology, but Malaysians will always read it as follows:

VEP = Very Expensive Payment
ERP = Everyday Rob People
