Photo Monday: Airports
When I have to travel alone by flight, a lot of my idle time is spent waiting for the flight to happen at the airports. In these time blocks, I take the time to walk around, looking for stuff which interests me.

Excuse me sir, that's art you're stepping on! =P
Art and transportation
In Melbourne, art and culture is much more advanced and richer than that of Singapore or Malaysia. I walked past this beautiful mosaic on the ground and I felt as though I was the only one impressed by it. Most people just walked past without giving it a second look!
Train stations used to be major venues for public art in the early 20th century, however it seems that the relationship between transportation and art has evolved into transportation-advertisements. Well, its a form of art as well I guess...

Inverted solar eclipse?
Pot-hole skylights
Melbourne airport has these curious looking skylights which may seem pretty mundane but interesting when photographed. This photo reminds me of a solar eclipse... well not quite, but I just thought it looked kewl. =)

Oh look, the palm tree under a 'starry' sky...
Bringing the outside in
The airport in Singapore tries to simulate the outdoors indoors. While KLIA gives you the real thing, as in the trees you see in the airport are real, these trees have to rely on artificial lighting. When we equate trees to human beings, imagine being placed in an environment where you cannot sleep... artificial lighting all the time! While there are passengers genuinely impressed with this, I just felt a tad uncomfortable with the artificiality of it all.

Typical typical... why are we so fascinated with planes?
Inside looking out
A typical feature in every airport, the gallery/cafe/observation area where people get a glimpse of the airplanes. I don't know why, but the novelty doesn't seem to die out. Perhaps its the frequency in which most people fly, in fact, it is still the most expensive way to travel... I see kids pinned to the windows looking out in awe.
Was I like that once?
