First week at work
Started work on Monday.
I currently work for this international architecture firm which has offices in all major Australian cities and in several countries overseas. My first task was to assist in doing some drawing updates for a university campus project in a Middle Eastern country. So far it has been fun, learning new tricks with AutoCAD as I go along....
It takes me about 30 minutes to walk to work every morning. The environment is quite pleasant, and starkly different to what I was used to in Malaysia. Everyone sits in this open office space, so a student like me may be seated next to senior architects, associates or even directors. Which is good, so those low in the food chain like me tend not to slack off. It is also good as it encourages social interaction regardless of level.
I'm still getting used to the new environment. Looks like it will be quite an interesting year ahead. The days whizz by so quickly. The office is in the process of updating their AutoCAD version to the latest 2006. All the software is quite up to date, e.g. Adobe Creative Suite CS2 is available in the office. They also have Sketchup in some computers not to mention VIZ, 3DS Max, etc.
Another student is working on this model, while I am doing work on some drawings. I'll probably be starting with some Illustrator work on elevation drawings next week.
Ok... enough about new work.
Now some news on old work:
I got a call from my tutor recently. I have been invited to submit my design work for an exhibition in Drouin. According to Steve the tutor, there will only be 1/2 a dozen projects on display. So I have put aside this Saturday, to work on my board for the exhibition, with a more clearer idea of what my idea was. After all, there seems to be a competition/selection with some money put aside for the winner(s). Could be enough to fund my flight to Europe... or at least my return ticket to KL.
Opportunity knocks. Wish me luck. =)
